Introduction
This course emphasizes the structure, function, and inter-relationships of organisms in their environment. The course traverses cells, organisms and population dynamics, with topics including energy, diversity, genetics, anatomy and physiology, and ecology. Projects and discussions on recent advances in biology enhance the course. This course includes laboratory activities to enhance and clarify biological concepts. Upon completion of the course students will be well versed in various biological topics and be prepared for the regents examination.
Textbook
Biology: The Study of Life 7th Edition (Schraer and Stoltze)
Classroom Materials
- 2 Loose-leaf 3-ring Binder (*one will be left in class at all times)
- Black or Blue Pens
- Several well sharpened #2 Pencils
- Colored Pencils

Grading
- Tests, papers, projects = 65 %
- Quizzes = 10 %
- Labs = 10 %
- Homework = 10 %
- Class Participation = 5 %
- Final Grade Determine by the following:
MP1 + MP2 + MP3 + MP4 = 90 %
REGENTS = 10 %
Homework
Homework will be assigned regularly. You are responsible for checking the class website to see the due dates of all assignments.

Lateness
Class Lateness -
Excessive unexcused lateness will result in a lowered class participation grade
Assignment Lateness - Assignments handed in late will have the grades lowered accordingly (i.e. the later, the lower the grade)
HOMEWORK WILL NEVER BE ACCEPTED LATE, unless there are extenuating circumstances.
You will not be penalized for a small number of missed homeworks; this will depend on the TOTAL number of homeworks given in a quarter. |
