*All students in all grades will participate in The Hour of Code during their technology classes. Ms. Elzer, Mr. Mead, Mr. Lane and Mr. Ruvio will be guiding students through this exciting and engaging event. The week of December 5th will kick off this exciting event and it will continue through the year! Students will ice skate with Elsa, work with Rey to guide BB-8 through a Galactic mission, or control how creatures behave in MineCraft!

*The next English Self Select Seminars will be held on December 7 and 8 and January 11 and 12.
Students will be exploring the concepts of individuality and collectivism using Richard
Bach's Jonathan Livingston Seagull and Ayn Rand's Anthem.
*The Lost and Found is overflowing! If you have lost something, please go to the Lost and Found that is located near the nurse's office. All clothing and objects will be collected and donated to a Long Island charity on Tuesday, December 13.
*When we return from Thanksgiving break, the Community Action Committee will be kicking off its
Toys for Tots toy collection drive. The CAC asks South Middle to bring in new and unwrapped toys
starting Monday, November 28. All toys can be placed in the Toys for Tots boxes located in the main
lobby. This toy drive will run until Friday, December 16. Again, the CAC asks all South Middle staff
and students to bring in one new and unwrapped toy for the Toys for Tots toy drive. For more

*Academic Outreach is up and running!! Thank you to everyone who attended the tutor-tutee pairing meeting on Wednesdays, Oct 27! Please note that if you were assigned a student to tutor, tutoring will begin the week of Monday, October 31st. All tutoring takes place in the SMS from 3-3:50 on that mutually agreed upon date. For those students who are interested in tutoring but did not attend the meeting, please email Mr. Bua at firstname.lastname@example.org and he will do his best to find you a tutor.
*The Community Action Committee will be accepting Box Tops for the March 1, 2017 deadline.
All current Box Tops dated after 3/1/17 can be turned in to Ms. Bazzani and Ms. Klein in room 623
before February 17, 2017. Thanks to our SMS students, families, and staff, the CAC is submitting
Box Tops valued over $150 for the November 2016 deadline. Last year's Box Tops were used to help
provide additional monies for our school's incredibly successful Relay for Life fundraiser. With your help, the CAC can continue to offer funds to wonderful community organizations. You can find out more about the box tops program here: http://www.boxtops4education.com/
